As we have been following the journeys of Paul—and especially here in the olympic stadium at Athens—I have been mindful of the fact that the apostle Paul constanly lived with a determination to finish his race strong for Christ.

Indeed, as he approached the end of his life, he was able to say:

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.—2 TImothy 4:7–8

Paul’s passion for Christ and consistency in preaching the gospel motivates us to set our eyes on Christ and finish our race with faithfulness and joy.
