As we draw nearer to our Lord’s return, our need for discernment in ministry grows with every passing hour.

The New Testament highlights this need, especially in Colossians 4:5 and James 1:5:

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

In this growth points video, I’d like to encourage you to seek God’s wisdom for three specific areas of discernment in ministry:

(If you cannot see this video in your RSS reader or email, you can watch it here.)

1. Ourselves—We need to learn to discern what is happening in our own hearts. Biblically, this only takes place when we look into the perfect law of liberty, the Word of God.

2. Our place in ministry—Every Christian should discover and deploy their spiritual gifts. What are the divine enablements God has given you to use today? What is

3. The needs of others—There are many different needs in the local church. We need discernment to identify specific needs and minister to those God has called us to serve.

Every day, as we work with different people, we need the discerning work of the Holy Spirit. May God help us all to grow in ministry discernment!
