The Scriptures give us many indications of the last times. The Bible speaks of wars, rumors of wars, pestilence, earthquakes, and many other events that will take place preceding the Tribulation.
One of the obvious indicators in Scripture concerning the last days is the rise of antisemitism, or the hatred for Israel. Interestingly, there would have been no target or object for this hate, physically, had there not been the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Since then, the battles over the land have increased with every passing year.
Ezekiel 38 references the rise of hatred against Israel in the last days. Verses 1–9 speak of the hatred of Russia, Ethiopia, Libya, and Iran for Israel. Ironically, even as Israel is currently retaliating against terrorism, much of the world stands in opposition to Israel. Each time we observe this conflict in the Middle East, may we as discerning Christians realize the coming of the Lord draws nigh.
No doubt, in the near future there will be a world leader planning to bring peace to the region. The world seems to be clamoring for such a leader and for a political type of peace. The Scriptures, however, remind us in 1 Thessalonians 5:3, “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”
May we keep our hope for peace in the Lord Jesus Christ who has promised that we would not be left for the wrath to come.
