Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 5:14-17

All of us have different talents and abilities and spiritual gifts. God gives us the tools He knows we will need in order to accomplish the tasks He prepared for us to do long before we were born. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). The plan of God for His work in the world is for His children to do it. He could have spoken from Heaven for all to hear or sent angels into the world to share the good news. Instead, He delegated that task to us. Each of us get the same number of hours in a day to do God’s work. While none of us know exactly how long we will live or how many days are in our future, we do know that we have today, and it is up to us to use it wisely.

Adoniram Judson wrote, “A life once spent is irrevocable. It will remain to be contemplated through eternity. The same may be said of each day. When it is once past, it is gone forever. All the marks which we put upon it, it will exhibit forever. Each day will not only be a witness of our conduct, but will affect our everlasting destiny. How shall we then wish to see each day marked with usefulness! It is too late to mend the days that are past. The future is in our power. Let us, then, each morning, resolve to send the day into eternity in such a garb as we shall wish it to wear forever. And at night let us reflect that one more day is irrevocably gone, indelibly marked.”
