Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39
Evangelist John R. Rice was saved as a young boy in a service at his church. Later he wrote, “For three sad years after I was converted I did not know for sure I was saved. When the invitation was given, I walked down the aisle and told the preacher, ‘All right, I have come to trust Jesus.’ But nobody then took the Bible and showed me how Christ had promised to us everlasting life. I went on doubting for three sad years. But after I had been saved for three years, I started reading the Bible. I read John 1:12, ‘But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.’ I said, ‘Here it is. When I believed in Jesus, when I trusted Jesus, I got everlasting life! That is what the Bible says.’ And, God is my witness, as far as I know, I have never had a second of doubt about my salvation since then.”
No power in Heaven or earth can alter the promise of God to His children. Jesus said, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28). Those who have been saved have already been saved forever. Though we have not yet reached Heaven, those of us who have trusted Christ here are just as secure as those who have gone before us and are already home with Jesus. There is no reason for a child of God to live in fear and doubt about eternity, for the same God who did all the work of saving us does all the work of keeping us until we reach His side.
