Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Hebrews 7:25-27
Though Jesus fully accomplished the work of our salvation through His death and resurrection, that was not the end of His work on our behalf. In addition to sending the Holy Spirit to live in us and guide us, He Himself is actively making intercession for us. There are no limits or restrictions on the prayers of Jesus. The things that may hinder our prayer life are not in Him, and Jesus prayed with full confidence that God would hear and answer. “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me” (John 11:41-42).
There is never a day when Jesus stops His praying for us. Though we cannot see or hear His words, we can be confident that He is speaking them. Robert Murray McCheyne said, “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet distance makes no difference. He is praying for me.” Nothing that happens in our lives escapes the notice of God. No tear that we shed, no burden we carry and no grief that we bear does not matter to Him. Jesus knows our sorrows and pains, and in His love He faithfully intercedes on our behalf. Even if no one else knows or cares about what you are going through, Jesus does.
