The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

Psalm 19:1-5

Though the natural world around us no longer has the original perfection with which God created it because of the effects of sin, it is still a constant witness to His surpassing power and greatness. Every time the planet turns as it makes its way around the sun, we are reminded again that God designed everything perfectly. If the angle of the earth on its axis were even slightly more or less than it is, life would be impossible. If the Sun were even a little bit closer or further away, we would perish from heat or cold.

There are no mistakes or flaws in what God made, and seeing the precision of His creation should call forth our praise. The creation glorifies God, and it is our privilege and responsibility to add our voices to the declaration of His greatness. When the Pharisees complained about the crowd welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem, He refused to stop them. “And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:40).

Charles Spurgeon said, “Doth not all nature around me praise God? If I were silent, I should be an exception to the universe. Doth not the thunder praise Him as it rolls like drums in the march of the God of armies? Do not the mountains praise Him when the woods upon their summits wave in adoration? Doth not the lightning write His name in letters of fire? Hath not the whole earth a voice? And shall I, can I, silent be?”
