And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Revelation 22:3-5
Though the Bible gives us a few glimpses of what eternity will be like, there is a great deal that we do not know. What waits for us in Heaven is so far beyond the things of this world with which we are familiar that there is no point of reference we can use to even begin to grasp the fulness of what is in store. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). The reality that awaits us is beyond the ability of human words and human minds to grasp.
Yet despite all that is unknown about the future, we still have no fear because we know that whatever else Heaven may be like, God will be there. The eternal God who devised the plan for our salvation, even before the world was made, waits to welcome us to the home His grace provides. The faithful Lord who gave His life and shed His blood in our place stretches out nail-scarred hands to draw us into His presence. The powerful Holy Spirit seals us with certain salvation until we stand in before the throne of God. We do not have to know the details if we know the God who is the heart of Heaven and our eternal King. The English Puritan Richard Baxter wrote these lines:
My knowledge of that life is small,
The eye of faith is dim,
But it’s enough that Christ knows all,
And I shall be with him.
