I had the privilege of praying with Jon and Kristine last night to dedicate our second grandchild—Delanie Lynne—to the Lord. Baby dedications at our church are always special to me, but this one was especially precious. There is nothing like dedicating your own grandchildren!
With the spirit Hannah had many years ago (1 Samuel 1:11, 27–28), Jon and Kristine prayed months ago, “Lord, if You give us a child, we will give that child back to You.” I’m thankful for Jon and Kristine’s commitment to raise Delanie for the Lord.
Delanie’s name means “victorious,” and we look forward to the day when she finds her true victory in Christ by trusting Him as her Saviour. We are praying that she will be saved at an early age.
Through the years, I’ve given a verse to each child at baby dedications. For Delanie, we chose Terrie’s favorite verse—Jeremiah 33:3: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
I’ve learned that many spiritual victories in my life are directly related to the prayers of my wife. As we gave Delanie her grandmother’s life verse, it is our prayer that she, like Terrie, will later become an effective prayer warrior, bringing great victory for others.
Please pray for Jon and Kristine as they raise Delanie for the Lord, and pray for Delanie to have a tender heart toward the Lord.
As a father and a pastor, it is a joy to have served and raised our family for twenty-five years in the same church. And what a delight it is now to see our children who grew up here raising their children for the Lord!
