Ministry Moments

Teen Missions Trip

Last Wednesday night Terrie and I drove to the church and took some time to have prayer and devotions with the team heading to El Salvador for a week of ministry. The team is lead by our oldest son, Larry, and his wife, Ashley, and they will be helping with two new church plants. Their efforts will include door knocking, teen basketball camps, and preaching in public schools. The team is comprised of high school students from our youth group as well as a few students from West Coast Baptist College.

Dr. James Rushing

Dr. James Rushing has been a faithful minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for several decades.  He pastored the Lake Cities Baptist Church in the Atlanta area for more than twenty years.  A number of years ago he began serving the Lord in the field of evangelism.  It was our privilege to introduce him to many pastors here in the west, and we are thankful for the way God has used him in evangelism.  Most recently, Dr. Rushing has been teaching here at West Coast Baptist College and has been a tremendous blessing.

Summer Weddings

It has been a busy week few weeks of ministry here in Lancaster, to so say the least. With graduation just a few days behind us, the summer weddings have already begun. Last week, just two days after graduation, I performed the wedding ceremony for two couples.

West Coast Baptist College Graduation

Last week, West Coast Baptist College saw its thirteenth graduating class enter into His harvest. We have said that from the very beginning, the goal of WCBC has not been students but rather graduates. It is a thrill to see students come to Lancaster each fall, but it is a much greater joy to see them finish strong and begin serving in ministry.

Teen Spring Banquet

On Monday, my wife and I had the privilege of attending the Teen Spring Banquet for the senior high teens of Lancaster Baptist Church in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. If you've never attended this banquet before, it's hard to explain how special an evening this is for the teens and their parents. With high school graduation just a few days away, this banquet is held to congratulate and honor of the senior class each year.

Public Servants' Appreciation Day

Praise the Lord for the wonderful day of ministry he gave us yesterday at Lancaster Baptist Church. We were honored by the presence of dozens of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics who joined us for our Public Servants' Appreciation Day.

For 23 years now, our church family has set aside one Sunday a year to honor the first-responders of the Antelope Valley. John 15:13 says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." We are grateful for the sacrifice these men and women make on a daily basis to serve and protect our community.

Alumni Fellowship

The purpose of West Coast Baptist College is to train laborers for His harvest. To God's glory, we have seen over 700 graduates enter the harvest field, and next week, over 150 additional graduates will join them.

Fellowship with Korean Students of WCBC

During my teenage years, my father was called to the mission field of Korea. At first, it was a difficult time of transition, but God taught me many lessons, gave me new friends, and blessed me with some incredible memories.

Since that time, the Lord has given me a special love for the Korean people and especially their food! This past Thursday, Terrie and I joined many of the Korean students from West Coast Baptist College for a wonderful Korean dinner in downtown Los Angeles. Following the Korean BBQ, we took a drive to the southern California coast. It was a beautiful evening.

WCBC Youth Conference

In these times of rampant, flagrant, wickedness in todays youth, I am thankful for teens who have decided to take a stand for God no matter the cost.

This past week, teens from across the country gathered together for the annual West Coast Baptist College youth conference. During these three days, these teens were challenged to live their life in a way that is pleasing to God.

Ministry in El Salvador

Last week I had the privilege of traveling with about twenty members of Lancaster Baptist Church to the country of El Salvador. Through a series of events the Lord has opened unique doors for the purpose of missions and church planting there.

In recent months, two fine young couples from Lancaster Baptist Church—the Charters family and the Weaver family—have moved to Central America. The Charters are already in San Salvador and the Weavers are finishing language school in Costa Rica, planning to arrive in El Salvador soon.
